Airdrie have signed former Motherwell, Stoke City and Rotherham keeper Robbie Hemfrey as cover for injured Josh Rae.The 22-year-old comes in as a free agent, having left Rotherham at the end of last season, and is a former Scottish youth international.Hemfrey comes in to help the goalkeeping department, with Rae undergoing concussion protocols following the 0-0 draw at Inverness on Saturday, while player-coach David Hutton is another deputy. He goes into the squad for tomorrow’s visit by Arbroath. The former Cathkin High pupil told Airdrie’s website: “I’m happy to be here and excited for what’s ahead.“I think we look to win on Saturday, it’s a big game.“Then the [SPFL Trust Trophy] cup final next week is a chance at a medal and a trophy.
We need to look up, really.”Player-boss Rhys McCabe said: “Robbie is well-travelled for his age, he has been down in the English Championship and he’s hungry for opportunities.“He’s at a stage now where he’s desperate to play football, so it’s a good opportunity and it fits in with what we’re looking for – a young, hungry goalkeeper with something to prove.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onX via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
