Erik ten Hag has suggested that he sees Victor Lindelof as an ideal option to use on the left-side of defence despite signing Lisandro Martinez to play there in the summer.

United identified signing a new centre-back as a transfer priority in the past transfer window, with new manager Ten Hag making clear his preference was to sign a left-footed one.

The response was to spend £56.7m on Ajax ace Lisandro Martinez, a player who has hit the ground running at Old Trafford with his defensive ability.

The arrival of Martinez looked to have spelled big problems for Lindelof's future in a United shirt, but he has enjoyed a resurgence in recent weeks, starting alongside the Argentine in wins over Omonia and Everton.
