Former Celtic hero Erik Sviatchenko looks set to swap Europe for North America - with the Danish defender closing in on a reported move to MLS outfit Houston Dynamo.Sviatchenko joined Celtic in the 2015-16 season under Ronny Deila, and instantly hit the ground running with a Scottish Premiership title under in his first season, making 14 appearances and scoring one goal.

However, it was his next season - under Brendan Rodgers after Deila had departed the club - that he began to blossom. 43 appearances in all competitions and one goal as Celtic charged on to an unprecedented treble in Rodgers' first season with 106 points from a possible 114 saw Sviatchenko become a fans favourite at Celtic Park - though that was to end prematurely as he moved back to hometown club FC Midtjylland. He has enjoyed a fruitful return to the Danish Superliga side, winning two league titles since, but now a shock switch to the MLS is in the offing.

A report by USA-based journalist Tom Bogert claims that his form in Denmark has alerted teams across the globe - with Houston Dynamo plumping for his signature. The move would see him join other former Celtic talents in Victor Wanyama, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Lewis Morgan across the pond, whilst others such as Ryan Gauld, Danny Wilson and Johnny Russell have also ended up playing their careers in the US.Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
