Energy bills could skyrocket even further next year, suppliers have warned. The government urgently needs to intervene as the UK faces a "nationwide crisis", Good Energy, EDF and trade body Energy UK told the Financial Times.
Their warning comes after the cost of gas in wholesale markets rose by more than 500 per cent in less than a year.
