It’s the end of an era for Julian Simmons as he is set to leave UTV due to changes brought about by the pandemic. The veteran broadcaster was much-loved by viewers having worked with the station since the 1980s and having been a permanent member of staff since 1992.
His amusing continuity announcements as to the shenanigans on the station’s soap saw him win over the public. But now, they’ll have to go without his wit after enjoying his musings after an on-air career that just about spanned five decades.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that his departure comes after local continuity announcements at the station were halted in April so as to minimise the amount of staff coming into the studios or working remotely.
