Employees of North Lanarkshire Council will be able to obtain electric vehicles through a salary sacrifice scheme. The council hopes that by joining the scheme and driving “green” vehicles its staff will contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, while benefiting from new, fully maintained and insured cars at a lower cost than they would find in the retail market.Although the incentive will not be available to staff earning less than £26,000 as the instalments would take them below minimum wage, around 10,500 council employees will be eligible to sign up with the option to purchase the car outright after the lease period ends. The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
