A former business manager has won £42,000 after his boss fired him moments after asking how much he liked his company car. George Dolby was sacked after meeting his boss for what was described as a “catch up” at a Holiday Inn hotel, an employment tribunal heard.
The pair were walking through a car park when Mr Dolby was asked by Stuart Sayer, owner and managing director of Stuart Plant Limited, what he thought about his Toyota C-HR Hybrid company car.
He replied that he liked the bright red automatic “very much” but was then told he was being made redundant. A judge at an employment tribunal said Mr Dolby, who had worked at the company for eight years, had been sacked in a “brutal manner”.
