Kate Ferdinand was every inch the "proud" wife as her husband Rio was awarded an Honorary Doctorate. Formally recognised for his work on addressing inequality, racism and the stigma around mental health, the former professional footballer was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from London South Bank University on Thursday.

And former TOWIE star Kate, who recently shared a sweet matching photo with son Cree, could not contain her pride as she sang his praises in a post shared to her Instagram account.

Uploading images of the big day in which Rio wore a blue robe and cap, 30 year old Kate gushed: "So proud of my husband. It's been such an emotional morning." Kate continued: "Rio was recognised by @lsbu with an Honorary Doctorate for all of his work In the community: from @rioferdinandfoundation to his help in tackling inequality, racism & the stigma around mental health. "Your achievements in football are out of this world, but what I love about you most is what you do to help others.

So proud, & forever will be." Kate concluded the post with: "Dr Ferdy" along with a graduation cap, bow-tie and red heart emoji.
