Soap fans were moved to tears during Thursday night's Emmerdale episode as the show took a unique approach by breaking the fourth wall for a deeply impactful cause.

Justice was finally delivered in the ITV soap as Tom King received his comeuppance with a prison sentence for the coercive control and mistreatment he inflicted upon his wife, Belle Dingle, over an extended period.

In a touching conclusion to the episode, before the credits rolled out, Belle is portrayed sitting in a support group as actual women recount their own agonising tales of abuse.

Speaking to Charity Dingle, an emotional Belle expressed: "These women, their stories, that is what gave me the strength to stand up in court today and to show there are people out there and they will listen."
