Christmas is set to be 'edgier' this year for Emmerdale and the New Year is set to get off to a mixed start for the villagers with tragedy for some as well as the arrival of new and familiar faces for some.
Earlier this year, the ITV soap's producer Laura Shaw revealed that the long-running show had pushed aside the 'fluffier' celebrations for something 'quite different in tone'.
She told the Manchester Evening News and other press at the time: "We’ve got some exciting plans but I have absolutely, definitely been sworn to secrecy on this one!
What I can tell you is that the last couple of years, we’ve kind of done a light, fluffier Christmas for Emmerdale, but this one is quite different in tone.
