TV presenter Emma Willis and her musician husband Matt Willis have, like many parents, suffered the downside of giving smartphones to their children, candidly sharing their experience in a new documentary.The couple, who share kids Isabelle, 15, Ace, 13, and Trixie, eight, are exploring the impact of social media on young people in the Channel 4 documentary Swiped: The School That Banned Smartphones.
In an exclusive with The Sun, the couple said they regretted their decision to give their eldest children smartphones, citing it as the "biggest disruptor" in their relationship.The documentary features the pair investigating online content accessible to kids on TikTok by going undercover as teenagers and partnering with the Stanway School in Colchester, where they challenge Year 8 students to abandon their smartphones for three weeks.
Reflecting on the decision to open the door to technology, Matt confessed: "Our daughter was 11 when she got a smartphone, it's been the biggest disruptor between us and her, I feel like I lose her to it quite a bit.
I miss her.The only reason that we ever have any kind of bickering in our house is because of that." Echoing his sentiment, Emma added: "We never allow them to have social media.Then when she was 14 she had been begging for a long time and we were like, 'You can have Snapchat'.
