Emergency services rush to Scots riverside after woman 'slips down bank retrieving dog'

Emergency services rushed to a Scots riverbank on Saturday after a woman got into difficulty trying to retrieve her pet dog.Police, ambulance response units and fire crews descended on Lothian Bridge in Dalkeith, Midlothian, at 1.30pm on Saturday, February 4, following reports of the woman falling down a six-foot high slope.Edinburgh Live reports that it has been suggested she fell trying to get her pooch out of the same spot, on the banks of the River Esk.

Local restaurant the Sun Inn, next to the bridge, says it was was informed of the nature of the incident by a firefighter in attendance.It said: "Someone is in difficulty on the River Esk banking.

There is a LOT of emergency services activity around the Sun Inn. A woman walking her dog took a wrong turn and came to a very steep embankment her dog fell over a 6ft edge and she couldn't retrieve the dog."The woman was helped back up the embankment by fire crews and is not believed to have any injuries.

Crews have since left the scene.A spokesperson for the the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 1.30pm we received a call that a female had slipped down the bank at Lothian Bridge.
