Sir Elton John has celebrated his 76th birthday and his family made sure to pull out all the stops to ensure the musical icon had the most memorable time.

The Grammy winner - who recently threw his star-studded annual Oscars viewing party - spent his special day at home with his husband, David Furnish and their two children, Zachary, 13 and Elijah, 10.

Taking to Instagram to share the surprises with his 4.4 million followers, Elton accompanied the post with the sweetest words. “I absolutely loved my birthday!

A magical day with @davidfurnish and our beautiful sons,” he typed, before divulging all of the gifts he received, one of which was pretty unusual but incredibly thoughtful. “From the most spectacular cake,” he said, referencing the impressive sweet treat that featured a fondant version of Elton donning his signature specs while playing the piano. “To the gift of 100 oak trees grown from acorns off the old tree that’s been gracing my driveway for centuries, it was a real celebration,” he continued. “Thank-you from the bottom of my heart to all the friends and fans who sent flowers and beautiful messages.” For fans of the musician, it was the oak trees that garnered the most attention, with many commenting how unique the present was. “So happy for Elton on his special day and the trees, how inspirational,” one person typed as another said: “What an awesome idea!
