Elliot Giles last night ran the second fastest indoor 800 metres in history to smash Seb Coe’s British record. Giles, 26, clocked one minute 43.63 seconds to beat fellow Brit Jamie Webb (1:44.54) into second place at the World Indoor Tour in Torun, Poland.
Coe’s record of 1:44.91 had stood since 1983 and Giles admitted, “I'm still trying to process what even just happened. “It really does feel like a blur.
I can't believe I just ran 1:43 indoors. I can't put into words right now how it feels. I'm so overwhelmed by it all. It feels like I'm on cloud nine.” Only Wilson Kipketer has run faster than Giles indoors, having set the world record of 1:41.67 in winning gold at the 1997 World Indoor Championships.
