Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager.
Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.
After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.

She made her modeling debut in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2010 and later appeared on the 50th anniversary cover alongside Nina Agdal and Lily Aldridge in 2014.
She also co-hosted Lip Sync Battle with LL Cool J on Paramount Network (2015–2019).
Ellen DeGeneres has said that she will be addressing claims of the "toxic" work environment on her show, when it returns later this month.
The 62-year-old comedian has announced the return of The Ellen DeGeneres Show for its 18th season and will set about putting a few things right in its premiere outing.
Ellen released a statement in which she said: "I can’t wait to get back to work and back to our studio. And, yes, we’re gonna talk about it." Variety has reported that Ellen will be joined on stage by Tiffany Haddish but there will be no studio audience dur to Covid-19 restrictions.
It was also announced that over the series, Ellen will be joined by Chrissy Teigen, Alec Baldwin and Kerry Washington on her daytime talk show.
