Eddie Howe has suggested the 'game management stuff' has been 'massively overblown' after Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag previously claimed Newcastle United were a team who 'try to annoy you'.
Prior to the Carabao Cup final between the two sides at Wembley last month - which the Reds won 2-0 - Ten Hag insisted the Magpies were a 'great team', before suggesting they were an 'annoying' side who 'try to annoy you'.
The Dutchman appeared to be referring to how Newcastle have seen matches out this season. The United manager referenced a statistic which showed the ball has been in play for 51 minutes and 41 seconds on average in Newcastle's Premier League matches this term, which is the lowest of any side in the division.
He also claimed the Reds were 'dependent' on the referee - as well as themselves - to get 'speed in the game' in the cup final. "It's part of the game, but not the main part of the game," said Howe. "The main part of the game is we have to play well.
