Arctic air travelling from the north will eventually spread over the country with the Met Office warning that the cold air “will win out eventually” by the end of the week.

Temperatures in some parts of the country could reach as low as -4C by Thursday and dip to -5C over the weekend, according to weather maps from WXCharts.

Snow is also set to continue in Scotland with around 12 centimetres set to fall, reaching further south than previously.
