EastEnders icon Rudolph Walker, known to fans as the Square's charmer Patrick Trueman, bravely opened up about being broke and homeless for two years, a dark chapter in his life he kept secret from fellow actors and his kids. The 84 year old heartbreakingly revealed that the journey to Elstree Studios was often marred with tears as he battled the "utter despair" of living this traumatic "double life".
Despite starring in one of the BBC's flagship programmes, Rudolph faced such dire financial straits following a harrowing divorce from his second wife Dounne Alexander MBE, whom he wed back in 1998, that he was left living out of a suitcase and depending on the kindness of friends for accommodation.
To his EastEnders co-stars, his troubles remained unknown; theyd had no clue about his struggles that began in the mid-2010s and had plunged him into poverty despite over four decades in the acting business.
At a point where legal battle scars left him with naught but his car, the veteran actor clung to hope during late-night shoots since it sometimes meant the BBC (unaware of his plight) might spring for a hotel stay close to the studio, reports the Mirror.
