EastEnders star Shane Richie has shared how he went for a prostate cancer check up just two days before learning that his character Alfie Moon was set to be diagnosed with the illness.
Shane, 59, opened up on the strange coincidence when he appeared on The One Show on Wednesday to talk about finding out that Alfie had a tough time ahead with his health.
Explaining that he had been asked to come in for a chat with executive producer Chris Clenshaw, Shane admitted that he had assumed the soap boss was going to tell him about a new storyline with Alfie's ex Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).
But he said he was surprised when Chris asked him: "How would you feel about your character getting prostate cancer?" Shane told hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas: "Here’s the thing.This is absolutely true, I don’t think I’ve told many people this other than my wife - two days before that meeting I went for a health check for prostate cancer.
