EastEnders fans worry for soap icon after BBC airs 'traumatising' scene

EastEnders fans rushed to social media on Tuesday 11 June to comment on the storyline that featured Sharon and Linda’s son Johnny attempting to sober Linda up after she passed out drunk in the bath. “Seeing Linda like this is nothing short of traumatising.

Her screams begging Johnny to let her out and him holding her there,” wrote one fan following the scene, in which Sharon doused her friend with water in an attempt to bring her round, while another added: “I think Linda will need to be scared straight again so she’ll stop drinking.” Linda has battled alcoholism for years, with things getting much worse following the disappearance of her husband Mick, who is presumed dead after he was lost at sea following a car crash.

She has also used alcohol as a way of coping after she killed Keanu. While one fan commented that “Linda needs to leave the Square for her health,” many praised the performance of actress Kellie Bright, especially for later scenes in the episode when Linda reluctantly accompanied Sharon (Letitia Dean) to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to talk about her drinking problem. “When kellie bright and letitia dean are front and centre, this show is never better,” said a fan, while another wrote: “Kellie Bright is incredible tonight.” Another commenter said: “11 years in the show this year and still delivering an absolute masterpiece of acting.
