East Kilbride Thistle boss takes positives after conceding late equaliser in rollercoaster clash at Girvan

East Kilbride Thistle boss Aaron Connolly was pleased with his side’s fighting spirit in a rollercoaster six-goal thriller at Girvan on Saturday.The Jags found themselves 2-0 down early in the second half but rallied superbly to take the lead thanks to goals from Ross Kennedy, David Gray and Adam Edgar heading into the final 10 minutes.But they were hit with a 91st minute sucker punch as their Ayrshire hosts managed to grab a late equaliser and earn a share of the spoils in the West of Scotland League Third Division.It was a sore one for Connolly to see his side fail to hold on in the dying minutes but he was pleased with the performance overall as the Jags extended their unbeaten run in the division to four games.He said: “In the first half I thought we were really good and very unfortunate to be 1-0 down in the game.“It was a mistake from our goalkeeper but he was trying to play it out from the back like we’ve asked him to, and unfortunately he has given the ball away.“Then we started the second half really poorly, didn’t get to grips with it, and ended up going 2-0 down from a set-piece.“But, to be fair to the boys, they reacted really positively to that and absolutely dominated the second half after that and got ourselves 3-2 up going into the last 10 minutes.“Unfortunately we just couldn’t hang on and we’ve lost a goal in the last minute.“But the positive is the overall performance.

The results will come and go at times but as we keep the performances up we will get our due rewards over the season.“For 80 minutes we were dominant and played really good football.
