Boss Aaron Connolly admits East Kilbride Thistle’s 6-3 thrashing at West of Scotland Third Division leaders Ardrossan on Saturday was as bad as he’s seen his side this season – and says he must shoulder some of the blame.The Jags found themselves 5-0 down at half-time and then 6-1 behind before managing to reduce the deficit to a more respectable three goal margin by the final whistle, with Liam McLaughlin, Ryan McDade and Luke Jackson on target for the Jags.But the manner of their first half display left a lot to be desired and Connolly admits there were errors on his part as well as ninth-place Thistle suffered back-to-back defeats, following last midweek’s West of Scotland Cup defeat to BSC Glasgow ‘B’.Connolly said: “It was a sore one.
We were really disappointed with the result and the first half on Saturday was as poor as I have seen us for a while.“It was miles away from our identity.“I was disappointed with that more than the final result but it is important to remember it is a young group and I am a young coach, still learning.“There’s things I could have done differently.
I probably made too many changes to the team, on reflection, but it doesn’t excuse the first half we had.“The players went out second half and almost saved face a little bit, but the first 45 minutes was not the team we want to be.“In the first 15 minutes Ardrossan had three one-on-ones and score all three, we had three one-on-ones and don’t score any – that’s the difference.“At any level of football, if you aren’t clinical, you get punished.“Ardrossan were well worthy of their win and 5-0 down at half-time, we’ve given ourselves absolutely no chance.“We knew there would be days like this with a young team so it’s about how we use this to
