A popular Italian restaurant has closed its doors amid the coronavirus crisis - but has vowed to give any left over food to the elderly and the vulnerable.

Tony Macaroni, at the St James Retail Centre in East Kilbride, had continued with take aways although the restaurant was closed to the public.

However, the chain announced last night that they will now cease all trade for the time being.The restaurant had helped give a boost to staff at Hairmyres Hospital delivering pizzas to the wards.But they have said any food left will be frozen and delivered in containers to those who need it most.A post on Facebook reads: "It's with a heavy heart I am closing the doors on the restaurants that have remained open for takeaway & delivery during this
