Their warnings come after NHS Lanarkshire reported that less than half of patients attending local A&E services were dealt with within the four-hour target at the end of last year, with 12 hour waits recorded locally and right across the country.
South Lanarkshire Labour Leader Joe Fagan, who is contesting the East Kilbride MSP seat in next year's Scottish parliamentary election, said: "For years, doctors have been warning about rising A&E waiting times and whole-system pressures across health and social care.
