East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy has challenged his side to hit the levels they have shown against Championship sides in cup competitions this season if they are to win promotion.Kennedy wasn’t pleased with the performance levels of his side in Saturday’s narrow 1-0 win over Broxburn Athletic, courtesy of Nathan Flanagan’s first-half strike, which kept them two points clear at the top of the Lowland League with three games in hand. And having given Queen’s Park a run for their money over 90 minutes of their SPFL Trust Trophy semi-final just days before the Spiders sensationally knocked Rangers out of the Scottish Cup, Kennedy says his side need to be more consistent. He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: “I think when you see the levels we got to against Queen’s Park for 90 minutes, it shows we are a top side on our day.“It’s quite incredible their result at the weekend and we dominated for large spells against them the previous week and were a shot off the post in the last minute away from beating them.“But then at the weekend against Broxburn, I didn’t think we were at our best.

We should have won the game more comfortably and for us it is about trying to get to those levels we showed against Queen’s Park more consistently.“If we play to the levels we did against Broxburn in the playoffs, we won’t win promotion.

So that is the challenge, trying to keep the players’ level of consistency high.”While some may argue EK have shown good consistency this term, losing just twice in 22 games, Kennedy added: “I’m not one of these guys that gets caught up in that ‘as long as you win’ mantra.“I believe consistency in performance is what makes you successful and that’s not about winning games of football, it is about hitting a high level
