Holders Hamilton Accies continued their SPFL Trust Trophy defence by erasing past Lowland League leaders East Kilbride.The sold-out South Lanarkshire derby looked like the tie of the round when the draw was made, and both teams went into it defending unbeaten starts to the season.Kilby gaffer Mick Kennedy had stunned Premiership Aberdeen last season in the Scottish Cup when he was in charge at sixth-tier Darvel, but it wasn't much of a contest at K-Park as League One Accies cruised into the quarter-finals.A first-half goal blitz saw Accies lead 4-1 through goals from Joel Mumbongo, an Aron Arnott own goal, a Kyle MacDonald penalty and a Connor Murray effort, after Kilby captain Chris McGowan's stunning strike had made it 2-1.In the second half, a fine effort from Nathan Flangan added to Kilby's tally before MacDonald grabbed his second of the day to seal the win 10 minutes from time.It means John Rankin's Accies march on to the last eight and keep the silverware in the trophy cabinet a little longer.Accies made six changes from last week's league draw with fellow League One leaders Falkirk.

Dylan McGowan, Euan Henderson, Dylan Tait, Kevin O'Hara, Jamie Barjonas and last season's cup final hero, Reghan Tumilty, all dropped out.

That allowed Joel Mumbongo, Joe McGlynn, Mikey Hewitt and Cian Newbury to all make their first starts, while Connor Murray and Stephen Hendrie also came into the line-up.EK made three alterations from their win at Berwick Rangers, as Keir Samson, Jonny Lyon and Chris McGowan came in at the expense of Marc Kelly, Allan McKenzie and Ryan Lockie.
