DVSA to introduce huge changes in 2025 as learners wait six months for test

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced major changes for 2025 in a bid to reduce huge waiting times for a driving test.

The government agency has announced a seven-point plan which they hope will tackle long waits and clamp down on 'unscrupulous' third-party websites booking out tests and selling them on to learners for a huge profit.

Earlier this year, Department for Transport (DfT) figures revealed that the number of tests taken hit a record high in the 12 months leading up to the end of March, with 1.9 million recorded.

The DVSA's new measures include recruiting and training 450 driving examiners and extending the period for changing or cancelling a test without financial loss from three working days to 10 working days in an attempt to discourage last-minute cancellations.
