Durie's ABC take double gold from William Wallace Box Cup

Durie’s Boxing Club picked up two gold medals at the William Wallace Box Cup in Stirling earlier this month.The fight night was the end of nearly 20 years affiliated to Boxing Scotland, as Durie’s go with Boxing Alliance Scotland.Castlemilk’s Kaylah Lynch, 14, won the 50kg class against England’s Sophie Gowlett by a 2/1 split decision.Lucas Ewing, 15, also from Castlemilk, triumphed in the 56kg class, beating Wellington ABC fighter Jack Coverdale in the final by unanimous decision.Danyal Khan, 12, from Cambuslang lost to Glenrothes boxer Kiawa Brown.

Mohammed Dean Khan, 12, lost to Irish boxer Harrison Orr in his 44kg bout, and Cambuslang 14-year-old Ross McNeil lost to Irish boxer Bryan Ward by a 2/1 split decision.Archie Durie, head coach of the Blairbeth-based Durie’s ABC, said: “This was the best Box Cup I have ever attended, and our five young boxers all did amazingly well.“Myself and our two other coaches, Jamie Durie and Nathan Rodden, were all delighted with the performances they put in.“We had two gold medal winners.

Kaylah Lynch really stepped up to out-box the doubly-experienced boxer from England.“Ross McNeill took a silver medal after his second bout of the weekend against Irish opposition, and it could so easily have been gold.“This also applied to the Khan cousins, Danyal and Mohammed Dean, and for all three of our boxers who lost, their opponents won gold in their finals.“Big Lucas kept his best performance of the year until his bout, showing why he’s the current Golden Gloves Scottish champion, and I was delighted with our boxers.”On the move to Boxing Alliance Scotland, Durie said: “This decision wasn’t taken lightly.
