Two men have been jailed after a brutal assault on a neighbour in the stairwell of a tower block.Stewart McDonald restrained the victim with a metal bar across his throat while Douglas Barclay stabbed him repeatedly.McDonald, 45, and Barclay, 54, admitted assaulting the victim to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Witchwood Court, Coatbridge, on February 8.Airdrie Sheriff Court heard the accused and a female left a flat on the 14th floor about 8pm.

The man ran back into the stairwell and tried to hold the door closed, but McDonald was too strong and grabbed him from behind, placing an iron bar across his throat.Barclay then struck the victim on the face with some kind of sharp object.Sarah Healing, prosecuting, told the court: "Eventually the man broke free and ran down the stairs."He realised his face was bleeding and removed his top to try to stem the flow of blood before going to his girlfriend's home nearby."The victim had two wounds, one of which required four stitches.
