Dumfries teacher to launch Guild of Gaming

A new not-for-profit organisation, founded by Dumfries teacher Danny Bennet, is aiming to provide a “welcoming and inclusive space” for young people and adults to explore the world of tabletop gaming.Guild of Gaming is set to open its doors at Noblehill Community Centre, Greenbrae Loaning, on Saturday (January 11) as a not-for-profit organisation to tackle social isolation, promote inclusivity, and inspire creativity for Dumfries and Galloway residents.

This will be achieved through hobbies such as Warhammer, Dungeons & Dragons, and a wide range of board and card games.Thanks to generous National Lottery funding, Guild of Gaming is able to offer free membership – ensuring accessibility for all and plenty of help to get started and join in.The £14,200 funding has been instrumental in covering venue hire, gaming resources and hobby supplies which means there is more than 300 free communal paints, brushes and tools for all members to personalise their character game pieces at a hobby station.The club also boasts state-of-the-art resources, including 12 fully equipped gaming tables with UKTC/WTC-standard painted terrain and a 3D printer for community use.Danny, who has been using tabletop gaming as a teaching tool for the past five years, decided to roll the dice and set up the club because of the huge interest in all types of tabletop gaming and the benefits it can bring.He said: “Through my work with care-experienced young people, I’ve seen how these hobbies can foster creativity, build confidence and create meaningful connections.“Guild of Gaming will bring this ethos to the wider community, and I’m thrilled to be able to welcome Dumfries and Galloway residents to our club.”It is already building strong ties within the
