The region’s top cop confirmed that community police officers will be on the beat soon as the force welcomed 12 new recruits last week.
Chief superintendent John Cairns revealed that a dozen probationary constable started new roles, and says he will make good on a promise to councillors that “community police officers will return”.
The new recruits are a welcome boost following cuts in previous years, which have reportedly seen the police force reduced in capacity by around 14 per cent.
Mr Cairns attended the council’s latest police, fire and rescue sub-committee meeting and tabled a regional police force update report for the first six months of this year.
