Dumfries and Galloway Council’s new interim chief executive faces a baptism of fire with a rise in Covid cases and the ongoing challenge of delivering services over winter.Derek Crichton, though, is taking it all in his stride after stepping in to replace Gavin Stevenson at the helm of the council until a permanent chief executive is appointed.He said: “It is a privilege to be asked to lead such a dedicated workforce who go above and beyond to deliver services every day of the year.”Mr Crichton, the director for communities, joined the council as a community worker in Newton Stewart and the Machars 29 years ago.Since then, as he has climbed the career ladder, he has gained extensive experience of frontline services and community planning.Al
