Dumbarton pub given permission to stay open later as it recovers from pandemic

Get the latest top news stories sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletterA popular town centre pub in Dumbarton has been allowed to stay open until 2am at weekends as it recovers from the pandemic.The Burgh Bar asked West Dunbartonshire Council if it could close its lounge area an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays in a bid to grow its night-time entertainment.At a licensing meeting last week, it was heard the bid was an hour over policy rules.

But the majority of councillors were satisfied the premises was well managed and could operate safely with the extra hour.The approval comes two years after the pub was knocked back for a similar application amid fears it would cause a booze price war and lead the way for others to try.
