Drop-off point for 'hard-to-recycle' waste set up at Lanarkshire primary school

Pupils at a primary school in North Lanarkshire are going the extra mile for the environment by setting up a drop-off point for “hard-to-recycle” items that can’t normally be discarded in household waste.Staff, pupils and residents living near St Aidan’s Primary in Wishaw can take items such as laundry products, packaging, reusable drinks bottles and food storage containers to the collection point after the school signed up to a number of TerraCycle’s free recycling programmes, including the Sistema Food Storage Container and Reusable Bottle Free Recycling Programme.The materials are not usually included in council kerbside recycling collections so have traditionally been destined for landfill or incineration.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Local residents are encouraged to bring their “unrecyclable” items to the location to be recycled and help boost the school’s fundraising efforts.
