Drop-in event at Rutherglen Town Hall will help residents be winter-ready

Rutherglen MP Michael Shanks has thanked the charities and organisations who contributed to his Preparing for Winter drop-in event at Rutherglen Town Hall.The MP was aiming to address poor rates of Pension Credit take up in the constituency, and help ensure local residents are ready for the winter season.It was attended by a number of organisations who will be supporting older people this winter, including LEAP, Money Matters, and Citizen’s Advice.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Advice on energy efficiency and protection against power cuts was also on offer from SP Energy Networks, and the brand-new Energy Advice Team at Healthy n Happy were able to offer simple tips to help improve energy efficiency at home.It is thought that up to a third of eligible pensioners are not currently claiming Pension Credit.

Those who qualify are automatically eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment. Thanks to the Pension Credit backdating rules, it is possible to apply and have the claim backdated by up to three months.
