Drivers hit by biggest monthly fuel price hike on record - despite 5p tax cut

The RAC says the average cost of a litre of petrol at UK forecourts rose by 11.6p from the beginning of March to the end the month, rising to 163.3p.
And diesel prices rose even more sharply, climbing by a whopping 22.1p per litre in March to 177.3p. Those surges broke the national record even with the 5p per litre cut in fuel duty imposed by Chancellor Rishi Sunak on March 23.

According to records, which date back to 2000, the previous biggest monthly increases in average fuel prices were October 2021 for petrol (7.4p per litre) and May 2008 for diesel (8.4p per litre).
