A driver who was apparently desperate to get to Ikea for the sales was caught doing 117mph amid foggy conditions on the M60, according to police.
A police patrol spotted a red Audi speeding along the motorway at Stockport. The car was eventually pulled over in nearby Tameside where the driver told officers he was 'rushing to get to Ikea'.
The Swedish flat pack furniture retailer, which has a huge store just off the M60 in Ashton under Lyne, has a sale until January 12 with 60 per cent reductions on some items.
But the trip to the Swedish homeware giant looks like it could prove more expensive than the driver expected -as he will now have to attend court 'to explain his actions'.
