This is the wreckage left behind after a dramatic police chase was brought to a sudden halt - by a tree. Greater Manchester Police says the pursuit began after the driver of a grey Vauxhall Astra failed to stop for officers in Middleton.
Officers followed the car through Middleton and into Alkrington Garden Village, but the driver continued in his attempts to escape the police.
The high-speed chase was brought to a dramatic end though, as the driver ploughed the Vauxhall into a tree. An image from the scene shared by GMP today (July 16) shows the front of the Astra severely damaged from the collision, although the rest of the vehicle appears to be relatively unscathed.
The tree also appears to have been unmoved by the collision. READ MORE: Man, 36, dies and Mercedes van driver arrested after horror M62 crash Police say that following the smash, police arrested the driver on suspicion of a number of offences, including driving whilst disqualified.
