Perth and Kinross celebrated success at the Scottish Disability Sport Awards.The awards evening was held at the Stirling Court Hotel on Sunday, September 24 and the Fair City was recognised in two categories.Jim Hunter won the Elspeth Watson Trophy for his contribution to disability sport and commitment to Perth Strathtay Harriers, where he has been an active member for 40 years and the main driver for the creation of its disability inclusion group.He has inspired grassroots participation through the pathway to regional, national and international representation for many athletes.“To be recognised by the national governing body for disability sport for something I love to do is rather special,” Jim told the PA.“I am just part of a wonderful group of volunteers here in Perth helping to make athletics accessible.“Para athletics continues to grow both in participation and performance and, with some great partners, we continue to remove the barriers and prosper.”The winner of the Janice Eaglesham Trophy for Club of the Year, meanwhile, was Perth Eagles Wheelchair Sports and Boccia Club.The club, started up by Graeme Doig of Perth and Kinross Disability Sport, continues to go from strength to strength.There are over 70 members taking part in sport and physical activity across various sessions every week.The club has been hailed a “great example” of how partnership working across many disciplines can make such a positive difference to so many participants with a disability.The work of Perth and Kinross Disability Sport goes on throughout the year, smashing the barriers to taking part in sport and forging lasting relationships along the way.Elsewhere at the awards, among the winners was Samantha Kinghorn who received the Finlay
