Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party suffered a double blow, losing two of out three by-elections as both Labour and the Liberal Democrats overturned big majorities.
Labour won Selby and Ainsty and the Lib Dems took Somerton and Frome on sizable swings which will leave many Tory MPs looking nervously at their own majorities.
However, the Conservative leader was spared his blushes as he avoided becoming the first prime minister since 1968 to lose three by-elections on the same day.
It came as Steve Tuckwell held on with a majority of just 495 in Uxbridge and South Ruislip. His majority was however down 7,210 from Boris Johnson in 2019.
