Double decker bus driver dies after 'medical episode' leads to crash

A double decker bus driver has died following a crash in Leigh. The 62-year-old was taken to hospital following the incident on Thursday afternoon but he died later in hospital.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at the junction of Atherleigh Way and Parsonage Way at around 4pm.

An air ambulance, police, paramedics and fire crews attended. Pictures from the scene showed road closures in place after the Bee Network service mounted the pavement.

The driver was cut free and rescued by fire crews before being taken to hospital with injuries that were described at the time as 'serious'.
