Country music icon and philanthropist Dolly Parton has never received the Presidential Medal of Freedom — but not for a lack of trying on the White House’s part.

Dolly, 75, revealed in an interview with TODAY that President Donald Trump‘s administration tried to award her the nation’s highest civilian honor twice, but she turned them down each time.

The decision wasn’t about her disdain for the former president, she stressed in her interview. “I couldn’t accept it because my husband [Carl Dean] was ill and then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID,” Dolly explained.

She added that she’s already heard from President Joe Biden about the award, too, just three weeks into his presidency!
