Dog owners who switch from a collar to a harness on walks could actually be breaking the law. That's because failing to put your name and address on your dog's tag when out in public is illegal and could land you a hefty fine - and even time in jail.Pet owners who are walking their dog without the proper identification could actually be slapped a six months prison sentence in the worst case scenario.

The Control of Dogs Order 1992 law for Scotland and England states that a dog must wear a collar with the owners name and address on it.

People who breach this are considered guilty of an offence against the Animal Health Act 1981 which is "punishable on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale".A level 5 fine.
