Passengers are facing disruption on the Metrolink this morning after a tram appeared to break down in the city centre. Engineers have been called out to resolve an issue on the tramline near Piccadilly Gardens today (September 26).
Metrolink bosses have told customers to expect disruption on a number of lines this morning following an 'incident', with several services being diverted away from Piccadilly Gardens.
Disruption is expected to last until this afternoon, with Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street and Shudehill tram stops currently closed.
Images from the scene show a tram stuck on the line, with 'not in service' displayed on its electronic sign. A team of workers can be seen trying to fix an issue at the side of one of the tram's carriages.
