A doctor has urged parents to avoid diluting their baby's formula amid the cost of living crisis, after an infant was treated for life-threatening seizures after ingesting watered down formula.The report published in Insider has highlighted the dangers of diluted baby formula, warning it could trigger life-threatening convulsions in babies.This occurs when infants develop water intoxication after drinking surplus amounts of water.The report states that diluted volume creates an imbalance in electrolytes, which causes sodium levels to drop.The eventual outcome of this is a decrease in the blood volume, which causes dangerously low blood pressure circulating oxygen in babies.
Sodium deficit in the blood can interfere with neural activity, causing signs of irritability, drowsiness and other mental changes.
