Blairgowrie’s Kevin Donald has thanked the community for its support as he passes on the reins of the town’s popular Mitchell’s Newsagent after 13 years. The High Street focal point, which doubles as everything from an informal box office for local events to a base for several independent businesses, officially changed hands on Sunday and is now under the stewardship of new proprietor Mr Khan.Kevin said he wanted to thank everyone who had taken the time to pass on messages of support and thanks since news of the sale was announced last week.He said: “It’s something I’d been mulling over for a wee while.

I didn’t want to be tied after I’d turned 50.“I put the shop up for sale before the Covid period and that’s it gone through now.“I was looking for someone who said they wanted to keep things the same and that’s what’s going to happen.“Mr Khan’s said he wants to keep it as it is and keep the staff on.

We’ve also got a number of small local businesses who have a base in the shop, which I felt was important to continue as well.“That ticked all the boxes for me in terms of the sale.“When you’ve built something up you want it to succeed in the future as well.”Kevin continued: “It’s always been one of those shops which has tried to do something different.

Chocolatier Shona Sutherland of Taystful, for example, has been based at the back of the shop since the day I started.“There’s no doubt I’ll miss it.
