'Demure' Chosen as Word of the Year By Dictionary.com!

Dictionary.com has announced their word of the year, and it’s from TikTok’s biggest trend of 2024! The word they chose is…”Demure!” Keep reading to find out more… If you aren’t on TikTok, a massive trend was started by TikTok’er Jools Lebron (pictured here), from her viral video citing that she’s “very demure, very mindful” while at work, at the airport, etc.

The trend caught on quickly, and instantly became huge. The popular site shared that the word saw a 1200% increase since January 2024.

They define it as, “characterized by shyness and modesty; reserved.” Other words that were considered for Word of the Year included Brainrot, Brat, Extreme Weather, Midwest Nice, and Weird, but none made the same impact as Demure.
