Dementia sufferers are set to be one of the worst-affected groups when over-75s are stripped of free TV licences, campaigners warned tonight.
An estimated 61% of people with the condition live at home – including about 537,000 aged over-65. The vast majority are aged over-75 and likely to be hit by curbs meaning only those who receive Pension Credit can claim free TV licences from August 1.
The Silver Voices campaign group feared people with dementia who are eligible may not be capable of applying for exemption, allowing them to benefit from free licences, worth £157.50 a year.
