DeepSeek, a tech start-up from China, has shaken the industry with the release of an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The launch of its new AI model has sent US stocks falling as it appears to be faster, smaller and cheaper than offerings from competitors like OpenAI and Google.
By Monday (January 27), DeepSeek’s AI chatbot had overtaken ChatGPT as the most popular free app in US and UK app stores. DeepSeek was founded in 2023 in Hangzhou, China, and released its first AI model later that year.
DeepSeek is an AI assistant that answers user’s questions and queries, much like ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and other chatbots.
