Dame Deborah James' mother has appeared on ITV Lorraine this morning (18 August) to promote her late daughter's new book, How To Live When You Could Be Dead, which is released today.
In her first studio interview since the death of her daughter almost two months ago, Heather told Christine Lampard how Deborah spent the last two years writing the book and described the final chapters, which were penned in the last few weeks of Deborah’s life, as “emotional”.
Heather said: “[She didn't get] the ending she expected when she started the book two years ago - she didn’t know then how long she’d have, but she had two extra years which was amazing.” Christine said: "She did tell you not to read that last couple of chapters didn't she?
Have you managed to find the strength to read them?" Heather nodded, replying: “Yes, I’ve read the last chapters now and they’re very emotional but very, very good advice to the children, so that’s good.” On how the family are doing after the loss of Deborah, Heather revealed: “We knew she’d come home to die, but you still had that bit of hope, ‘Did they get it wrong?’ "She lived longer than the first time we were given.
